Christianity without Old Testament? Ever since Marcion, Schleiermacher and Harnack, the canonical status of the Old Testament has occasionally been disputed in Christian theology. A new debate started in 2015, following an article by Notker Slenczka, who claimed that the Old Testament should not have a normative weight equal to that of the New Testament. This article shares neither this thesis nor its academic scandalization, but rather seeks to clarify why the church has an Old Testament and what it is good for.
