The Doctrine of Original Righteousness an the Garden Setting. The traditional doctrine of the original gifts in paradise is of utopian character. Liberated from its neoscholastic setting and seen in the context of a theology of vocation it expresses a promise of what is possible for humans to become according to the will of God: behavior in justice and a corresponding science with regard to the co-creatures, a peaceful way of rule, liberation from the fear of death and from insatiable desire are possible for humans who trust in God’s word. The deteriorated anthropology on which the doctrine is based can be dissolved if one refers these gifts to the context of the garden. The world should be treated as a garden, this is the relevance of this doctrine.
