Catholicity: A Plea for a Church without Borders. Starting with the observation that in the church and in christianity the categories conservative and progressive have lost their plausibility, this essay argues for a wider understanding of catholicism as «catholicity». The usual forms of pastoral care are by no means sufficient today, as the church is confronted with many, who are neither inside or outside, who remain religiously anonymous. Catholicity thus means, that it is the calling of the church, to be open and full of sympathy for those «extra muros ecclesiae».
