The Devil’s Party. On the Aesthetics of Evil. This essay analyzes the phenomenon of lure and temptation as the masquerade of evil in contrast to the aesthetics of the cross and the death of Christ in selected paintings (Holbein; Grünewald). In present society there is a growth of the monster aesthetics (terrorism; film; videogames) and there is actually such a thing as a «beauty» of evil. But it is a mere mocking imitation of real beauty. The essay thus follows the philosophical idea of the evil as «privatio boni»; according to this theory the phenomenon of evil can not claim a genuin ontological status.
