Dementia: Challenges and Ethical Perspectives. In view of the growing number of elderly patients with diagnosed dementia more and more debates on dementia are rising. The prevalent picture of the diagnose is nevertheless inadequate. This article follows the thesis, that many pictures of dementia have moral roots and certain ideas of man. Moreover, the controversy about the ideas of man is a struggle for the ethical foundations of our society with consequences for the rights and duties towards persons with dementia. The author presents an argument for an specific idea of the human person as the fundament for the ethical protection of all phases of human life, including dementia.
