Between the Fathers and Modernity: On Hans Urs von Balthasar’s «Ressourcement». The essay examines the profile of the early theology of Hans Urs von Balthasar in the tension between the French «ressourcement» movement and the theological understanding of modernity. The author emphasizes a sensitive difference between the approach of Henri de Lubac and the approach of Balthasar regarding the role of the (Greek) Fathers in the renewal of contemporary theology. The programmatic article «Patristik, Scholastik und wir» can be seen as a key of the modern-theological self-confidence of the early Hans Urs von Balthasar and at the same time as another type of «ressourcement».
