On the Definition of Philosophy in the Stromateis by Clement of Alexandria. This article examines the definition and assessement of philosophy in the Stromateis by Clement of Alexandria. It discusses the great importance Clement attached to a philosophical education for Christians so that they would be capable of defending themselves against intellectual attacks by Pagan scholars. In this context, it also acknowledges Clement’s positive reinterpretation of the Sirens in Homer’s Odyssey.
