Church on Good Foundations? On the Crisis of the Protestant Church in the Ecumenical Context. The Corona crisis has triggered a discussion about the societal and systemic relevance of the church. In the middle of the crisis the Protestant Church published a strategy paper on the future of the church. Not only the reform proposals contained therein, but also the theological deficits criticized from various sides have triggered a fierce controversy. In the meantime, a revised version of the guiding principles has been published. This paper discusses the fundamental theological questions and symptoms of crisis that have become apparent in the Corona crisis as well as in the debate on the EKD paper, and locates them in an ecumenical context. The crisis of the churches presents them with the common task of developing a new theology of the diaspora.
