«That I Might Win More of Them» (1 Cor 9:19) – The Transformation of Hellenism and Judaism Through Early Christianity. Adolf von Harnacks thesis of the «hellenization» i.e. alienation of the gospel’s faith through the hellenistic philosophy has been recently criticized, but it‘s still alive. Researching the method of the Church Fathers to appropriate the pagan culture of antiquity («chresis») and the influence of the jewish religion on christology and trinitarian theology can show, how early christians have argued with the hellenistic, but also jewish traditions, and how they transformend them in the light of faith in Christ.
