A Priesthood of Service in a Synodal Church. Due to the seismic shocks caused by the abuse crisis in the catholic church, the question of the priesthood must be posed anew. This is also reinforced by the corona pandemic, which lead to a decline in priestly services. In this situation and in view of a synodal church, the deepening of the interaction between general and service priesthood suggested by the Second Vatican Council is indispensable. The starting point is the Eucharist, from which the Church lives and which needs the priestly ministry. The celibate way of life cannot stand alone as an appropriate form of expression. It belongs in the context of the Evangelical Counsels, above all in the accentuation of obedience as an attitude of listening and availability.
