Re-thinking Priesthood and Seminary. Even after the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, the professional ethos of the priest is still based on elements of a pre-modern society. The disclosure of the abuse of power by priests has shown that the corporate symbols of the priesthood can turn into their diabolical opposite when there is no professional limitation and control. It is necessary to break with an anachronistic and dangerous system that brings even new dangers in respect to the ever larger parishes and pastoral areas. An efficient step in the professionalization of the priestly work could be ad experimentum to postpone the seminar phase to the time of testing after the study phase, as is done in comparable professions.
