Is the Priesthood Dispensable? The text claims at the beginning, that no sacrament of the church is more incomprehensible and more precarious at the moment than the sacrament of ordination. The public is even asking, whether the priesthood is still needed at all. Two arguments from the theology of ministry for the indispensability of the sacramentally secured ordo are developed and presented in their practical relevance. On the one hand, this is the importance of the sacrament of ordination for the religious freedom between God and man. On the other hand, so-called ‹sacramental experiences› (Hans Joas) are only made possible from these spaces of freedom.
