The Becoming Visible of the Invisible. Augustinian Aspects of the Appearance of Christ in the Flesh, Aimed at the Parousia. Despite all its limitations, Augustine’s theology of the appearance is characterised by a remarkable coherence. The incarnation of the Word is the culmination of all theophanies, for the appearance of Christ in the flesh reveals divine love. God assures man in his own Son how much he loves him. The incarnation of Christ finally finds its completion in his parousia. Beginning with Old Testament theophanies, through the incarnation of the divine Word to his parousia, a climactic arrangement thus becomes clear.
