Tectonic Shifts. On the Reinterpretation of the Concepts of Autonomy and Dignity in the Context of the Debate on Assisted Suicide. In the current debate on assisted suicide arguments referring to autonomy and dignity are of crucial importance. At the same time, however, there are serious shifts in the understanding of both terms, which is moving further and further away from the classical Kantian interpretation of these categories. Above all, in the recent judgement of the BVerfG, autonomy is increasingly approaching a completely unlimited self-determination, which abandons essential achievements of the Enlightenment tradition.
