A Holy Nation – Biblical Impulses to Understand Vocation. Normally, a divine call is perceived as something extraordinary, happening only to few selected individuals. The Bible, however, shows a different picture: It relates a variety of tasks. At Mount Sinai, God invites the entire people to become a «kingdom of priests and a holy nation». Deutero-Isaiah continues on this line and still expands it; God’s call starts already before the birth, is directed also to a lonely woman, a servant, and a foreign ruler and deepens the relationship with him. The familiarity with him is essential to live a vocation. It grows through learning as a disciple, through imitation and following the divine, or Jesus’ example.
