Taufe und Taufwürde. Im Gegensatz zu vielen aufwendigen, religiös oder zivilgesellschaftlich motivierten Initiationszeremonien ist das Sakrament der Taufe durch einen bescheidenen, von Gebet erfüllten Akt gekennzeichnet, der jedoch zum Ausdruck bringt, was genuin christlich ist: die Neuschöpfung des Menschen durch Gott in Christus und den Heiligen Geist. Sowohl das Ritual als auch die zugrundeliegende Theologie offenbaren die Würde des Sakraments: eine neue Existenz in Gott, befreit von der tödlichen Bedrohung durch die Sünde, das Bewusstsein, dass der göttliche Geist das Innerste des Herzens erfüllt, und nicht zuletzt der Auftrag, öffentlich in der Hoffnung auf eine Zukunft zu leben, die gegenwärtig schwer zu verstehen ist. Diese Gedanken sind so formuliert, dass sie auch Einwände bezüglich der eigenen Weltanschauung berücksichtigen, wie sie derzeit geäußert werden.
Baptism and Baptismal Dignity. In contrast to many elaborate, religiously or civicly motivated initiation ceremonies, the sacrament of baptism is characterized by an unassuming prayerful act, which, however, expresses what is genuinely Christian: the re-creation of the individual by God in Christ and the Holy Spirit. Both the ritual and the underlying theology reveal the dignity of the sacrament: a new existence in God, liberated from the deadly threat of sin, the awareness that the divine spirit fills the innermost of the heart, and, not least, the mission to publicly live in hope of a future that is currently beyond comprehension. These thoughts are articulated in a way that also takes objections concerning one’s world view into account, as they are currently expressed.
