Thomasrezeption in der Neuzeit. Thomas von Aquins Philosophie und Theologie wurden seit der Frühen Neuzeit in der katholischen Kirche stark rezipiert. Der Beitrag stellt die Entwicklung dieser Rezeption dar. Während im 16./17. Jahrhundert die Methode und Struktur der Theologie von Thomas in didaktischer Absicht aufgenommen wurden, sollte im 18./19. Jahrhundert seine Philosophie ein sicheres Fundament für die Theologie bereitstellen. Im neuscholastischen Thomismus des 19./20. Jahrhunderts spiegelte sich das antimodernistische Programm der katholischen Kirche. Doch ermöglichte er auch eine vorsichtige Erneuerung der Theologie. Während in der gegenwärtigen kontinentalen Theologie die Thomasrezeption an ein Ende gekommen scheint, findet in Nordamerika eine erneute kreative Auseinandersetzung mit Thomas’ Denken statt.
Modern Receptions of Thomas Aquinas. Since the early modern period, many philosophers and theologians have creatively worked with the thought of Thomas Aquinas. This article describes the development of that reception primarily within the Catholic Church. While in the 16th/17th century the method and structure of Thomas’ theology were often taken up for didactic purposes, in the 18th/19th century his philosophy was expected to provide a secure foundation for theology. The Neo-Scholastic Thomism of the 19th/20th century reflected the anti-modernist program of the Catholic Church. However, it also facilitated a renewal of theology. While the reception of Thomas seems to have come to an end in contemporary continental theology, a renewed creative engagement with Thomistic thought is taking place in North America.
