Zusammenfassung / Abstract
„A Pope in Conflict: Paschal II († 21st january 1118)“ – Paschal II (1099–1118) is one of the failed popes. Trapped in the experience of the struggle with Henry IV since the 1070s, he was unable to find an agreement with the Salians after the end of the Wibertinian schism (1100) and was brought to extremes by the initially supported successor Henry V 1111, which precluded a compromise on the investiture issue, as found in England and France, until the end of his pontificate.
