Zusammenfassung / Summary
A full and proper interpretation of the biblical texts cannot be achieved by an exposition that is only philological and historical-critical. They also have to be examined for their message, for their truth content. This means that biblical exegesis flows into a theology of the Bible. In a series of articles on biblical hermeneutics, Heinrich Schlier examined the tasks that are thus set before the theologian. While developing his positions very much in conversation with the representatives of hermeneutical philosophy, his work as an interpreter of New Testament texts is consistently marked by its belonging to the realm of a theology of the New Testament. Intense exegetical work on the text and an unfolding of its meaning that is open to the faith of the Church thus fruitfully complement each other.
