Zusammenfassung / Summary
In Dei Verbum 12, analogy of faith is mentioned among the principles of theological exegesis which, while affirming the historical-critical method, at the same time try to widen its scope. Joseph Ratzinger has been continuously emphasizing these two levels of approach to the Bible in his theological contributions as well as in his magisterial teaching as Pope. From the perspective of conceptual history, it proves quite difficult to exactly distinguish analogy of faith from other norms of theological exegesis (unity of Scripture, rule of faith, ecclesiastical tradition). From a systematic point of view, the concept is to be understood in the conflict between historical and dogmatic exegesis of Sacred Scripture necessarily resulting from the difference between the event and the interpretation of divine revelation.
