Zusammenfassung / Summary
Contemporary analytic philosophy of religion seems to argue overwhelmingly in favor of a modification of divine omniscience and eternity. The core difficulty both attributes, if understood in a classical sense, have to face is the problem of foreknowledge for which God’s eternal point of view seems to undermine human freedom. The article offers an overview of different strategies to resolve the so-called foreknowledge dilemma. Eventually it votes for an understanding of divine omniscience that is oriented at medieval theology while thinking of God’s knowledge not in terms of propositional knowledge. And equally the article votes for an understanding of divine eternity not in the sense of omnipresence but in the sense of conceptualizing God’s eternity as a fifth dimension.
