Zusammenfassung / Summary
God presents himself as the maker of good and evil. With Hans Jonas many theologians call him powerless – or guilty. But that is not only unbiblical, it also eliminates the possibility of prayer. On the other hand, some defensive efforts simply sound cynical in the ears of victims. Instead of defending God we should defend our faith in him, appealing to his promise that he will vindicate himself. For example, we look, finally, at the sacrifice of Isaac, the story of God’s challenge to a “hope against hope”.
